Botanical Printing Workshop
With Jenny Coats | Saturday 4th July
The Dorothy Fox Education Centre, Sheffield Botanical Gardens
*** Update – this event has been cancelled unfortunately. I have another printing workshop scheduled in the autumn at Ecclesall Woods. Details here:
Join local artist Jenny for a full-day course introducing you to the art of lino printing. Let the tranquil setting of summer in the Sheffield Botanical Gardens inspire you with botanical shapes to create prints using a wide range of techniques.
Jenny uses techniques that can be easily replicated at home so this is the chance to learn a skill which you can continue.
You can see examples of Jenny’s work here: https://www.instagram.com/jenny.coats.created/

What to expect:
- You will visit the gardens to collect botanical images and sketches. You’ll then learn to trace these onto soft lino, carve and run a simple first print.
- You’ll be introduced jigsaw, two-layer and ‘chine colle’ printing techniques incorporating more than one colour. You may want to return to the gardens to collect further ideas.
- Finally, you’ll have the opportunity to put all of your learning together to create a final print. We’ll look at how layers can be added to create a really effective final run of prints which you will print to quality paper ready to be editioned.
What’s included:
- All materials and tools
- Your own sketchbook to keep
- Tea, coffee & biscuits throughout the day
- An invitation to develop a new practice in a supportive group
- A calm, inspiring space to explore traditional techniques
No experience needed – complete beginners welcome.
This workshop is perfect for anyone interested in nature, taking time out to slow down whilst developing a regular creative practice.
