July News

June seems to have passed in a flash! It’s been a busy time in school getting everything finished off before the end of term. My favourite arty project has been monoprinting habitat backgrounds and then adding relief printed animals which are adapted to live in them! We’ve had some lovely outcomes and as always lots of fun peeling back the paper to see what the print looks like.

We’ve also had some amazing outcomes in After-School Art Club at Bradfield Dungworth where we’ve been making these fantastic masks from cardboard. I love the originality and how each child took the project i their own direction once shown the basic approach.

I visited the incredible Colourscape art installation at Wentworth Woodhouse with the twins and a friend and her son. It was a really fun and honestly mind-bending experience that we all enjoyed. The colours inside the installation were entirely made byt eh sun shining through the coloured exterior of the huge inflated tent. The twins also really enjoyed the sound and light installation.

And the month was rounded off nicely with a Watercolour Botanical workshop at Cotton Star Camping. This was a real highlight actually – mainly because of the lovely people who attended and the joy of seeing them create paintings they felt proud of.

July has started a little damp and chilly but hopefully it will warm up again.

Here’s a round up of what’s coming up this month!

Adult Art Club at Dungworth Village Hall

Thursday 18th July, 7-9pm

Adult Art Club will meet slightly earlier in the month. Last month we focussed on painting landscapes using a limited colour palette with some fantastic results. When we meet in July we will build our skill with watercolour using this to paint skies and sunsets. There will be lots of chance to play with your watercolour palette and experiment with how colours interact with one another when wet on the page. Places are still available to join the club so why not join us for an evening of relaxation and mindful painting? (Oh and cake!)

Other great things to do in July!

  • Get out elsewhere and experience nature somewhere else – Like many of you, this month will see our summer holiday. It’s a great time to get out and notice what nature has to offer in a different part of the world. As someone who lives inland, I always look forward to visiting the coast and seeing what gets turned up where the sea meets the land.
  • Visit Winster Wakes – I’ll be at this lovely Peak District village carnival on Saturday with Pecsaetan Morris – hopefully dancing depending on my hip! I’ve been before and remember it being sunny, involving dancing up a hill and very friendly people. Looking forward to it. https://winsterwakes.wordpress.com/
  • Watch this – I’ve only made it to Glastonbury once, in 2000, which is apparently quite a long time ago now, but I do love watching it every year on TV and getting a little feel of the atmosphere. I’ve got PJ Harvey’s set on my watch list.
  • Paint this – I came across this lovely picture of a Peak District morning on a Facebook Group where people share reference pictures for artists to draw and paint. This is surely what social media was made for?! I think this could be a great watercolour painting.
