I’ll be continuing to run my popular Art Club at Dungworth Village Hall on Thursdays monthly in 2025 and from September I’ll also be trialing a Wednesday evening monthly. Both the Wednesday and Thursday within each month will have the same focus and teaching content so you can choose which is most convenient for you to attend. The Wednesday date is usually in the second week and the Thursday in the fourth but there are some changes to this, so please check the dates carefully.

Art Club is a fantastic way to gently develop some new skills through regular practice and tuition from me – Jenny Coats – an artist and qualified teacher.

Each session stands alone with a different focus from still life to portraiture or landscapes. During the Autumn term, we’ll be focusing on drawing using pencil and pen and watercolour painting techniques.

• Wednesday 10th or Thursday 25th September – Animals
• Wednesday 8th or Thursday 23rd October – Autumn leaves and other treasures
• Wednesday 5th or Thursday 20th November – Misty Landscapes
• Thursday 18th December – Festive Wreaths

(I have had to cancel the 3rd December session as the hall is double-booked.)

You’ll learn how to really look and see what you are trying to draw, breaking objects down into simple shapes considering how negative space can help you draw more accurately. You’ll also learn to manipulate watercolour paints to create a range of effects including washes and wet on wet techniques. There will also be chance to learn about proportion as well as how to sketch quickly using pencil, pen and paints.

But don’t worry if that all sounds very fancy and technical! Art Club is also a chance to draw and paint in a relaxed environment with warm company. Even if you’ve not picked up a pencil in years, you’ll soon see your skills and confidence grow.

Each session is £9 and includes tea and homemade cake. You can ‘pay as you go’ or book all 4 sessions for £32.
