August News

I’m late with the August news but it has been the holidays and everything seems to move at a different pace in August – that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it!

July was much warmer and finally felt like summer. With the end of term events and then our holiday in France, it was certainly busy and I didn’t have the opportunity to run as many classes and workshops. Art Club at Dungworth hall – my monthly group for adults – was my only arty event in July. This group is so much fun. We have been focussing on watercolour techniques and last month’s class looked at painting skies and sunsets with really fantastic outcomes plus all the usual chance to chat and catch up.

I’m also very proud that I’ve kept up with my #52WeeksofNature project and I’m now over half way through. You can read more about this here Halfway through the  #52weeks Project

What’s happening in August?

August is a much busier month for arty activities with kids’ holiday art clubs running every Tuesday morning, workshops at Cotton Star Camping alongside the monthly art group at Dungworth. Here’s how you can get involved:

Kids’ holiday clubs

Every Tuesday morning in August I’ll be running a club just for kids aged 7-14. The first of these took place this Tuesday and we had so much fun printing, making a mess and creating a lovely wall hanging. Next week focuses on cardboard sculpture when we’ll be making fish from cardboard using techniques to make them have three dimensions and adding lots of texture, colour and decoration! Places are still available for the next 3 weeks – Book here! https://forms.gle/38h8nXSXocR2x5Fs9

Workshops at Cotton Star Camping

Following the success of my last workshops at the beautiful campsite on the shore of Agden reservoir, I’ll be running two more over the weekend of 24th/ 25th August. The Saturday workshop will be one for families. We’ll be making traditional willow lanterns to illuminate the campsite – or your garden! Then on Sunday, there will be a workshop for adults focusing on watercolour landscapes where you’ll learn to lay down washes, create effective skies and use colour.

Both can be booked here: https://forms.gle/VLx6rCRAuJw4s2qm8

Art club at Dungworth Village Hall

The monthly club at the hall continues in August on Thursday 22nd 7-9pm. This month will focus on painting flowers and botanical subjects using watercolour. It’s a lovely friendly group and new members are always welcome. It’s just £8 a session and cake is included! No previous experience is necessary. Just send me a message for more info and to book a place.

Dates for Autumn term can also now be booked:

7-9pm – Monthly Thursday evenings – 26th September

24th October

28th November

19th December

I’m yet to plan these in detail so let me know if there is anything you’d like to have a go at!

Other great things to do in August!

  • Get out and get creative at the beach! I love the beach but I’m not great at sitting still in the sun and I’ve realised that messing about with sand, pebbles and seaweed isn’t just for kids! Follow James Brunt for examples of amazing beach art and create your own!
  • Watch this! It’s got to be the Olympics this month. We’re already over half way through and it’s been completely enthralling. Each event has its own stories and colour. Love it!
  • Visit this! I absolutely love the Yorkshire Sculpture Park but don’t visit enough even though it’s very near where we live. If you get a chance over the summer, check out their amazing site.
  • Draw this! A lovely speckled wood butterfly that I managed to get a picture of as it settled in my dada hostas!

Thank you so much for reading this and supporting me! I really hope to see you at one of the August events but if not I’ll be getting my September newsletter out in better time with details of all the events I have running over the Autumn.
