June News

May was definitely a wet one but June seems to have started much brighter and drier and all that rain does mean everything is very green! I’ve already enjoyed a couple of walks with blue skies and warm sun and I’m looking forward to more of that this month. I’m also looking forward to running more events in June and hopefully seeing more of you there!

Here’s a round up of what’s coming up this month!

Watercolour Botanicals at

Cotton Star Camping

Sunday 30th June, 10-12:30pm

Despite very wet weather, my first workshop at Cotton Star camping last month was a huge success not least because of the support of the site owner Sarah and their event shelter! I can’t wait for my next one on Sunday 30th June where we’ll be focussing on botanical watercolours. The site is a really lovely sheltered and secluded space to take some time away. Places are still available to book. Why not combine it with a stay at the site?

Adult Art Club at Dungworth Village Hall

Thursday 27th June, 7-9pm

Adult Art Club also meets again at the end of June for its 3rd session. I really enjoy this club because of the lovely people who come along. Last month we focussed on tone in our drawing and painting and used this to paint bottles and vases. When we meet again on Thursday 27th June we’ll be focussing on landscapes. There will be a bit on perspective and how to use watercolour washes and glazing to paint effective landscapes. This is something that I feel I’m still working on in my own practice and I hope this will support those that attend. Places are still available to join the club so why not join us for an evening of relaxation and mindful painting? (Oh and cake!)

Other great things to do in June!

  • Get out, enjoy the light evenings and look out for swifts – The Summer Solstice this year will be on Thursday 20th June when the sun won’t set until 9:50pm! Throughout the month, the sun will continue to be up well past 9pm so it is the best time to get out and have an evening walk. Evenings are also a great time to see swifts, our incredible summer visitors who will be hoovering up insects on the fly and putting on an amazing aerial display over your head!
  • Watch Inside Out 2 – I’m very late to the party with Inside Out having only watched it very recently but – what a good film – on so many levels! As someone who is fascinated by learning and the brain and how memories are formed it was a really interesting attempt to model this. There is also an incredible scene which gives an insight into how the emotions within parent and child brains work during an argument. So I’m looking forward to going to see the sequel https://youtu.be/LEjhY15eCx0?si=0XtLNfFhVRXIZ36D
  • Paint this – Although at the time I thought I was quite possibly the only person in the UK who didn’t see the Northern Lights when they put on their big show in May, I understand a few others might have been in bed like me! Whether you saw them or not, you can still have a go at painting them. Using watercolours to create blended and mixed colours would work well. Have a go – I’d love to see them!
